Home update

Hey Sitb, I saw that you made an edit to the home page with the comment of: "Moving content into column containers (ToU-related)"

Could you let me know what ToU is and what this change was for?

Thanks

Hi there!
I made that adjustment to bring the wiki in line with Fandom's Terms of Use, which includes a statement that users should not:
"block, remove, or otherwise obstruct the proper functioning and view of advertisements, and/or user interface and functionality"
Since many of Fandom's advertisements only function properly within the two-column layout, each wiki's main page must have its content placed within those left and right column containers (footers are exempt). I understand this probably isn't widespread knowledge, and was probably done unintentionally on this wiki, so no harm done.
Advertisements should be unhindered now, after my adjustments, but you folks are welcome to continue formatting/costomizing the wiki's main page however you see fit, within that two-column format.🙂

Thanks for the info. I'm working on a redesign of the home page now. Can you confirm this is how the page should be formatted? Does footer content simply reside outside of the mainpage column? Or is it contained in another element?
<mainpage-leftcolumn-start />
Left Content
<mainpage-endcolumn />
<mainpage-rightcolumn-start />
Right Content
<mainpage-endcolumn />
Footer Content

Your example is correct. You can choose to put a footer inside the left column, or have it outside, and after both column containers to have it stretch all the way across the bottom of the main page (that seems to be the preferred approach on most wikis). I look forward to seeing what you're able to come up with! Let me know if you need any assistance at any point.

Home update issues

Hello, I am attempting to update the homepage, but it is not working like I expected.

In the edit preview, the homepage looks as I expected it to. However when I saved the page, many of the panels were not in the correct column.

I've reverted Home back to your last revision for now, but you can look at the page's history, or Sandbox, to see what I was going for.

Please let me know if you can figure out what is going on here. If you want to message me on discord, I can share some screenshots too.

Update: I have been able to get the homepage to look correct, but this was through an inelegant method of sticking all the column content into 0 border tables. If you have a better solution please let me know. thanks --An Adventurer (talk) 14:54, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
I glanced around at your wiki's templates/css earlier (before you made the most recent changes), but I couldn't spot what was making some of those panels stretch wider than others. I'm glad the "border solution" you found solves the display problem, but the cause is a mystery to me as well.

Looking at the main page on both desktop and mobile (desktop view), it doesn't appear that anything is mis-formatted in its current form. TBH, I'm not sure there's harm in leaving the formatting how you currently have for now. It would still be interesting to know what caused the problem though.🤔
