Shackles of Obedience Quest
Level: 20
Type: Solo
Starts At: Stable Rift at 8.0N, 50.4E
Route: Lytelthorpe to North Lytelthorpe Villas at 2.2N, 50.5E
Repeat: 20 Hours

Overview

This quest was one of the "appetizers" in the The Rise of the New Singularity Story Arc.

If you can survive the fall, much of the dungeon can be skipped by jumping into the pit rather than across it. If you can deal melee damage or magical damage that does not require line-of-sight, you can kill and loot Dirrich through the grates at the bottom of the pit. As long as its corpse is next to the grate you should be able to loot it.

Walkthrough & Notes

  1. Head to the Stable Rift at 8.0N, 50.4E.
  2. Kill the Rifts outside the dungeon until you get a message saying you feel changed.
  3. Enter the mostly linear dungeon, do not jump into any pits
  4. Kill Dirrich, the Warden, loot the Shackles of Obedience and an Obsidian Shard from his corpse.
  5. Bring the Shard to Diyas al-Yat to get it translated and receive Dirrich's Journal
  6. Bring the Shackles to Josef in Martine's Retreat for an experience reward.

Dialog

Killing a Rift outside the dungeon

You feel the energy released by the rift's destruction enter you. You feel changed...
Killing Dirrich, the Warden

A flash of violet backlights the Virindi's mask, and in your mind, a hollow voice intones, "So this is my reward for following the Directive. Aerbax was right..."
Handing Obsidian Shard to Diyas al-Yat

You give Diyas al-Yat Obsidian Shard.

Diyas al-Yat tells you, "This really provides some insight into the inner workings of the impure Virindi. It is such a pity to see broken dolls where there was once such purity. Pity."

Diyas al-Yat gives you Dirrich's Journal.
You give Josef Shackles of Obedience.

Josef tells you, "These won't help me much, but..."

You've earned 7,000,000 experience.

Josef tells you, "That should help you a little. See, I want these for a specific reason. They'd remind Martine of what the Virindi did to him. We don't want that happening to him ever again. By we I mean the majority of us here. All of us had problems. Some greater than others, but we did all have problems and Martine gave us something that none of us had, Hope."

Josef tells you, "In a sense he was our savior. He took us out of the darkest times that any of us had ever faced, brought us back from that brink and got us motivated to live again."

Josef tells you, "Not easy to do with a bunch of ne'er do wells. But he did it. We started working with him to build places that we could call our own. Do things that we could have pride in. We struggled it's true but in the end we were feeling better and things were looking up. Until Gaerlan came back. And then the voice returned."

Josef lowers his eyes.

Josef tells you, "It was like watching your best friend disappear. He had beaten that thing back. It was gone, forever. But now it was back."

Josef tells you, "Nothing more I can say about that."
