Quest Overview

There are two land control fortresses, one in North Osteth and the other on Freebooter Isle. Starting in a Neutral state, the fortress has 3 Blight flags that anyone who is in a faction and PK can claim by double clicking (using) the flag. This will convert the flag into a flag of that faction and can be destroyed by any other faction member who is PK. If destroyed it will revert to the neutral state and can again be claimed by anyone. If five minutes pass without being destroyed, the flag will convert into a self healing version that is much harder to destroy. When all three flags have been maintained by a single faction for at least five minutes the fortress will be won. Winning the PK battle grants the winning faction 3 days (68 hours) of access to the Black Market located at the bottom of the cave in the middle of the fortress.

Many creatures spawn once the flags become active (these can be killed by nonplayerkillers, only PKs can attack a flag). These do not drop items or give xp.

During What Once was Lost this dynamic was updated to include a Crystal Array that will appear on a new hovering platform in the courtyard after 27 hours. The array has 1.5 billion health and if destroyed will cause the fortress to revert to a neutral state (instead of waiting for the 68 hour timer to expire). If the array is never destroyed, the 68 hour timer will simply expire and the fortress will become neutral as before.

New rewards were also added, now an NPC will appear in the courtyard after the fortress is won and will reward any [[PK]s that speak to him with a Braced Mana Forge Key (NPKs will not receive a reward). He goes away after 10-15 minutes. Note that the landblock where the fortress is located including the black market below is no log, you will return to your lifestone if you log or are disconnected. Also a Buffing Array crystal was added next to the cave entrance in the courtyard that will proved 90 minute level VIII life protections to anyone that is a member of the controlling faction.

Freebooter Keep

Located at 64.0S 97.5E on Freebooter Isle, you must be at least a Knight in your faction to access the island. Use Sanctuary Recall then run west and use the statue on the dais at ??, the keep is a short run to the southeast.

Northwatch Castle

Northwatch Castle is located at 81.5N 25.0E.

There are three flag locations:

  • Courtyard - 81.6N 24.8E - On the ground in the middle of the courtyard near the north wall.
  • Spire - 81.4N 24.9E - On the checkerboard landing by the spire tower (above the entrance).
  • Tower - 81.5N 24.6E - On the top of a floating tower on the west side connected to the castle wall by a bridge.

  • After 72 hours (3 days) the flags revert. There are warnings given at 30 and 10 minutes before:

Northwatch Castle will fall to the Creeping Blight in 30 minutes!
Northwatch Castle will fall to the Creeping Blight in 10 minutes!

  • During the battle, there are regular updates:

<Player> has destroyed the Eldrytch Web Banner of the Tower! Control of this location has been lost to the Creeping Blight, for now.
The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Spire will become claimed in two minutes!
The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Courtyard will become claimed in two minutes!

The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Tower will remain in a contested state for 5 minutes. After that time, the Eldrytch Web Banner of the Tower will become claimed and begin repairing any damage done to itself! If at any point the Eldrytch Web Banner of the Tower is destroyed, the location will revert to the control of the Creeping Blight.

The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Courtyard will become claimed in one minute!
The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Tower will become claimed in four minutes!
The Eldrytch Web Banner of the Spire has been successfully claimed! At this point, the Eldrytch Web Banner of the Spire may still be destroyed, but it will regularly repair some of the damage done to it!
